2026 OVERLANDING SHOWCASE SPOTLIGHT: Tyler Smith and his 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness

Tyler hits the trails with his copilot Pippin in “Gray Ghost,” his modified 2024 Outback Wilderness. GG has tackled trails all over Texas Hill Country to the full length of South Padre Island National Seashore, and now travels all over Middle and East Tennessee.

GG’s mods include RalliTek 1″ overload springs, black powder-coated Rival4x4 engine and transmission skids, CAtuned sliders, ADF reinforced rear sway bar brackets, a Nameless front strut tower brace, a Thule Caprock roof platform, and an OVS awning.

While these mods make Gray Ghost a formidable AWD off-roader, it still remains a true jack of all trades, master of none—but that is WAY better than a master of only one.
